Jim LeMieux, owner of ReSurface Pros, has personally reglazed over 3000 bathtubs since 1998. He doesn’t hire anyone else because he wants to make sure the job is done right every single time. He doesn’t cut corners and is thorough in each step of the process, making sure each customer gets the quality and dependability ReSurface Pros is known for.
Jim begins by carefully removing all existing caulk, including silicone caulk which can be very difficult to remove. He then carefully masks and papers the surrounding area to prevent any overspray. Jim uses a ventilation system that is specifically designed for refinishers. This ventilation system effectively vents 90% of all odors outside. He then uses the completely safe, tried and true method of etching all cast iron and steel bathtubs (not necessary on fiberglass; please click here for more information). The etching is part of the three step cleaning and sanding process. Many other refinishers skip the etching process which is nothing more than a shortcut, usually reflected with a low price and less than ideal results over time.
Now that the area is prepared properly, the bathtub is ready to be sprayed with three different coatings. The first two coatings are primers. Jim sprays two coats of each primer. He then sprays on three coats of an acrylic urethane coating which is the extremely durable, high gloss, top of the line top coat. When this top coat is sprayed on properly the bathtub looks just like porcelain (see experience in WHY RESURFACE PROS). We do not “reporcelainize.” Porcelain is baked on in a kiln at roughly 2000 degrees. Be leery of businesses that claim they reporcelainize.
Finally, we finish the job right including services others up charge for. Namely, a must have, invisible slip resistant bottom for safely. We recaulk your tub with a professional, smooth clean bead of caulk. We polish your hardware, drain, overflow plate, spout, etc. When your tub is refinished with your tile surround (see TILE above), your caulk line is also sealed so no mold or mildew will appear. You will have a brand new looking bathing area at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
We have never had a claim with the Better Business Bureau. We continue to do business while many other companies have started and failed.
Sometimes we hear abour refinishers who "reporcelainize" bathtubs. This is impossible to do at home since porcelain involves baking at temperatures of roughly 2000 degrees. Refinish, reglaze or resurface are the more accurate terms to describe this process.
Also, some refinishers boast about coming back the next day to buff out the tub. They are trying to turn their inexperience into a selling point. If a bathtub is reglazed properly the first time, this step is not necessary. When I first learned how to refinish, I often had to go back because of imperfections I needed to fix. With experience, I perfected my technique so this inconvenience is not necessary.
